Cấu trúc Provide

1. Định nghĩa

Trong tiếng Anh, Provide /prəˈvaɪd/ có thể được hiểu là “hành động cung cấp hay cho ai đó thứ họ muốn hoặc cần”, “khiến cho thứ gì đó xảy ra hoặc tồn tại” hoặc “đưa ra quy định”.

E.g.: Nature does not provide everything we want. (Thiên nhiên không cung cấp mọi thứ chúng ta muốn.)

The project provides a chance for students to work together. (Dự án này tạo ra cơ hội cho những học sinh làm việc cùng với nhau.)

The working contract provides that all the employees are paid on the 5th day of the month. (Hợp đồng lao động quy định rằng tất cả nhân viên được trả lương vào mùng 5 của tháng. )

2. Các cấu trúc Provide

2.1. Cấu trúc Provide đi cùng with

S + provide + somebody + with + something
HOẶC Somebody + be + provided + with + something (+ by …)

Ta dùng cấu trúc này với mục đích thể hiện sự cung cấp một cái gì đó cho ai đó.

E.g.: Our company provides all employees with medical benefits. (Công ty chúng tôi cung cấp cho tất cả nhân viên các quyền lợi y tế.)

Edinburgh is well provided with clinical hospitals. (Edinburgh được cung cấp tốt với các bệnh viện lâm sàng.) 

2.2. Cấu trúc Provide đi cùng that và mệnh đề

S + V, provided/providing that + clause

Ta dùng cấu trúc này với ý nghĩa “miễn là”, “chỉ cần”, hoặc “với điều kiện là”. Cấu trúc này do đó có nghĩa tương đương cấu trúc If hay Only if.

E.g.: He’s welcome to come along, provided that he behaves himself. (Anh ấy được chào đón đến cùng, miễn là anh ấy tự cư xử cho phải phép.)

This new film will attract the crowds, whatever its quality, providing that it gets played up in the right way. (Bộ phim mới này sẽ thu hút đám đông, bất kể chất lượng của nó, miễn là nó được phát hành theo đúng cách.)

2.3. Cấu trúc Provide đi cùng for

S + provide + for + somebody

Ta dùng cấu trúc này để diễn tả hành động chu cấp, chăm sóc ai đó về thức ăn, quần áo,… trong cuộc sống.

E.g.: It is obligatory that parents must provide for their children. (Điều bắt buộc là cha mẹ phải chu cấp cho con cái.)

You should find a proper job to provide for your family. (Bạn nên tìm một công việc thích hợp để chu cấp cho gia đình.) 

S + provide + for + something

Ta dùng cấu trúc này để diễn tả hành động chuẩn bị, lên kế hoạch nhằm đề phòng cho các sự kiện (thường là tiêu cực) có thể xảy ra. Đồng thời, cấu trúc này cũng có nghĩa là hành động quy định, thực thi điều gì đó, thi hành luật nào đó.

E.g.: Provide for the worst, the best will save itself. (Hãy đề phòng điều tệ nhất, điều tốt nhất sẽ tự biết phải làm gì.)

We should provide for every eventuality in the budget. (Chúng ta nên chuẩn bị cho mọi trường hợp có thể xảy ra trong ngân sách.)

The company’s policy provides for two members of the board to represent it. (Chính sách của công ty cho pháp 2 thành viên hội đồng đại diện cho nó (công ty này).)
